How to reach the School Liaison

  • Phone: 805-982-3832
  • Email: NBVCSLO@navy.mil
  • Office: Building 1169 at Port Hueneme, the same building as the Housing Service Center
  • Hours: weekdays 8 am to 4:30 pm

Call before you move. The liaison works with families who are still at their old duty station.

What they do

  • Explain the districts. Seven districts serve the towns around the base. The liaison knows which one covers the address you are looking at.
  • Smooth the transfer. Inbound and outbound records, enrollment paperwork and who to call at the school.
  • Help with special education. They connect your current plan to the new school and coordinate with the Exceptional Family Member Program.
  • Solve Interstate Compact problems. If a school balks at placement, credits or a senior's graduation plan, the liaison steps in.
  • Support during deployments. They work with teachers and counselors when a parent is gone.
  • Point you to home school, tutoring and scholarship resources.

When to call

  1. The week you get orders Ask which districts fit your commute and what each needs to enroll.
  2. Before you pick a house Confirm the school for any address you are serious about.
  3. If your child has an IEP or 504 plan Call early so services are ready on day one.
  4. If something goes wrong A course will not transfer, a team will not take a late arrival, a senior is short a credit. This is what the office is for.

Have this ready

  • A copy of your orders
  • Each child's grade, current school and any special programs
  • The neighborhoods or addresses you are considering
  • Report cards or transcripts, even unofficial ones
  • Immunization records

Your rights in one minute

California follows the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children. Your child can enroll with unofficial records, gets 30 days to meet immunization rules, keeps comparable placement and services, and can stay in the same school after a local move. The details are on the schools page.

Pair the call with a home search. Once the liaison tells you which schools serve an area, Adam can search for homes inside that boundary.
